Happy Book Birthday to Perfection!

Today, I have the pleasure of wishing my Oasis for YA sister, J.L. Spelbring, a very happy debut YA book birthday for her new novel, PERFECTION.

The personification of Aryan purity, Ellyssa's spent her whole life under her creator's strict training and guidance; her purpose is to eradicate inferior beings. She was genetically engineered to be the perfect soldier: strong, intelligent, unemotional, and telepathic. 

Only Ellyssa isn't perfect. 

Ellyssa feels emotions--a fact she's spent her life concealing. Until she encounters the epitome of inferiority: a dark-haired boy raised among renegades hiding since the Nazis won the war a century ago. Happy Release Day to FALLING AWAY by Devon Ashley

Happy Book Birthday REAPER'S NOVICE

As soon as my bedroom door closes, Rolf swings me around and backs me up against the door, his entire length to mine. He slides his arm around my waist, pulling me closer. He leans down, pressing his lips on my forehead. “Your dad doesn’t trust me.” 

I slide my hands up his firm chest and slip them around his neck, tangling my fingers with the silky-soft hair curling on his collar. “I don’t think my dad trusts any boy in my room.”

He chuckles, his warm breath caressing the shell of my ear. “Good thing he doesn’t.” His voice is hoarse, tossing away any decent thoughts from my mind. “I’ve missed you.” My knees barely hold me up as his lips trail my jaw, in a slow torturous pace. His arms tighten around me, melding us together. Hiking to my toes, I push my body forward until all that surrounds me is his light sandalwood aftershave.

“Missed you—” His mouth covers mine, cutting me off. Every sound inside the flat fades. Everything in me veers forward, focusing on him, on his lips on mine, not caring that my parents could walk in on us, or my siblings down the hallway could barge in. His hands travel down the hem of my t-shirt, and under it, wrap around my waist and soon his fingertips whisper into my skin. And I’m burning. They hike farther up. Every nerve in my body narrows to his fingers. I’m sure if he stops, my body will shatter into millions of worthless pieces. And when they do move up to trace the outer line of my lace bra, my body trembles with the promise of combusting. A whimper bubbles up my throat, and I push myself further into him. If only I could get under his skin, then we could be one. He groans low as he pushes me against the door seeming as desperate as I am. I tighten my hold on him at the same time fumble awkwardly with his shirt searching for the path to his skin. As soon as my fingers touch his skin, his whole body trembles. 

He lifts his mouth from mine, then buries his face in the crook of my neck, breathing hard. I clutch him closer, tighter, my breath mirroring his.

“Kissing you has got to be the most pleasurable thing in the world, Ana.” His voice is still rough, his breath deliciously warm on the nape of my neck. I couldn’t agree more. I mean about kissing him.

Happy Book Birthday BROKEN!!

Today is the day -- the book birthday for my Oasis Sister, A.E. Rought and her debut YA novel, BROKEN.  You can't see me, but I'm doing cheerleader-style pikes over here, I'm so happy for her!  (And yes, those do hurt at my age.)

Here's the official synopsis:

Wow. This was creepy in all the right ways. Plus, Emma was a wonderful, believable character. Her family life felt very real (2 parents, both alive and caring though still PITAs). Alex was such a sweetheart I couldn't help but love him too. And the ending!! I won't ruin it for you, but you'll be flipping the pages as fast as you can.

TOUCHING THE SURFACE by Kimberly Sabatini

Way back when being an author seemed like an impossible dream (January 2009), I ventured to NYC to attend the winter SCBWI conference.  My first day there I participated in the novel intensive, where we were seated at tables of about 9 authors with 1 agent or publisher.  As we each took turns reading our first few pages aloud, one opening took my breath away.  The writing was beautiful; the story compelling.  I admit I was a little jealous.  But mostly, I was in awe because I knew I was meeting a person who would undoubtedly be published one day.  To my great delight, this author was as sweet as she was talented, and she went out of her way to befriend me and invite me out with her group that evening.  This author was none other than Kimberly Sabatini.

I know it's hard to compartmentalize your story, but the synopsis says it's paranormal.  When I read it (long ago), it felt more like a contemporary.  How do you feel the story reads? I consider SURFACE an accidental paranormal LOL! In my mind it's a contemporary, that by circumstance, has a little zing.

Happy Debut YA Book Birthdays

So yes, I did skip last week in order to celebrate the launch of a single title: ORIGIN.  But now I'm back and there seem to be loads of titles coming out today (September 11th).  Not all of them are debut authors either, so if you've been waiting for Sophie Jordan or Ellen Hopkin's next novels, today's your day.  But there are some great debut titles this week too, like these:

Debut YA Book Birthdays

My hubby and I celebrated 11 fabulous years together this past weekend. We got away for a night (leaving the girls behind) and enjoyed ourselves in St. Augustine. The only thing that could've made it better is if I'd slipped in a little reading time by the pool.  Not that these books were out yet, but they sound like they would've done the trick.  So happy debut YA book birthday to this week's birthday crop!

Fingerprints of You by Kristen-Paige Madonia

So here I was, thinking I was going to be horribly belated with this post, and it turns out no debut YA authors had birthdays yesterday. Phew.  But there is one today and one tomorrow.  Huh?  I know, weird.  So anyway, let's raise a glass for these debut YA novels.

This weekend I went to a party to celebrate my awesome dad's 70th birthday.  But today, we're celebrating debut YA book birthdays.  Both are great reasons to celebrate, no?
